Make Some Waves:  SoCal Curls

I have straight, long, thick hair. I’m not complaining about it, but as the saying goes, “You always want what you can’t have.” I’ve hemmed and hawed about getting a perm several times to possess undulating, flow-y locks. And though I own a curling iron, I can’t be bothered with a hot, metal tool at 7:30 in the morning. So… basically, I am lazy and that’s why I have straight hair.

But, hello SoCal Curls! The antidote to my lackadaisical styling. SoCal Curls is a handy-dandy accessory that looks cute, is easy to use, and gives me Rapunzel-like waves without the possibility of burning myself. Here’s how it works: heat the headband for 30 seconds in the microwave, tie it around your head, then wrap your hair around it section-by-section. Let your hair set for about a half an hour, or overnight, and when you let your hair unravel, ta-da! Curls! And lots of them. (See the tutorial video here.)

The headbands come in all different colors and patterns ($19 each), and are pretty much the perfect combo of cute and convenient. Hallelujah.
